Computers Programs
The Adaptive Technology Computer Center is an innovative training site for adults with developmental disabilities to
learn basic computer skills. Those who attend the computer lab can work to earn certificates in the numeric keypad,
calculator, typing, data entry, Windows XP basics, word processing basics and spreadsheet basics.
After earning their certificates they are awarded an overall Computer Literacy Certificate. Participants in the computer
classes produce a monthly newsletter "Heart to Heart". They help to make editorial decisions on story content, conduct
the interviews, write the articles, and take pictures for the newsletter.
Many like to write creative stories using pictures of interest to share with their family and friends. Artist who attend
the computer lab create designs for T-shirts and canvas bags using iron-on transfers of their work which is sold at Sophie's Gallery and arts and crafts fairs.
Adaptive technology equipment is being gradually introduced in the computer lab enabling visually impaired students
access to large monitors and adaptive keyboards to have the same access to computer technology as everyone else.
